MATERAMARE: discovering Sustainable Tourism in Basilicata with TRMTV

Revolution in Lucanian tourism thanks to the “MATERAMARE” project. Maria Santarcangelo, project leader, and Alessandro Martemucci, marketing manager, presented this cutting-edge initiative to TRMTV microphones. They discussed the project’s objectives and vision:

  • Enhancing the rural territory between Matera and the Ionian coast
  • Promoting local traditions and regional businesses
  • Creating an immersive tourist experience

As highlighted during the interview, the initiative aims to “animate the territory”, transforming the tourist offer into a journey that goes beyond a simple visit, embracing the very essence of Basilicata.

The project already includes three events. While the first will be held in Matera at the Dragone Brothers‘ farm, particular emphasis was given, during the discussion, to the third event scheduled for November 11th in Scanzano Jonico at Fontanarosa Vini. This event will see the participation of a group of students, underlining the importance of education in sustainable tourism.

Partnerships with local companies, such as Cantine Crocco in Montalbano Jonico (where the second event will take place), offer visitors the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the region’s food and wine culture, in this case with guided tours of the vineyards and the striking badlands.

A new concept of tourism

“Between Matera and the Sea: rural wine experience” is not just a geographical itinerary, but a sensory journey that:

  • Enhances local food and wine excellences
  • Promotes slow and conscious tourism
  • Offers authentic and memorable experiences

Alessandro Martemucci highlights how this approach allows visitors to “live the territory and the company”, fully immersing themselves in the experience of a place. The initiative promises to diversify Basilicata’s tourist offer, among other things increasing the average stay of visitors and promoting the de-seasonalization of tourism.

Transforming the tourist experience into two unforgettable journeys, “MATERAMARE” leverages the extraordinary landscape and cultural diversity of Basilicata, offering a unique tourist product.
